Staff Accountant

Brooklyn, NY (Remote Fridays possible)
80-95K (depending on experience)

 

Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Staff Accountant to join a dynamic and fast-growing finance department within a large nonprofit organization. This role is instrumental in preparing and maintaining accurate financial records, managing government-funded budget processes, and working closely with program leads to ensure compliance and financial clarity. The Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong background in accounting (nonprofit experience preferred)

  • Highly reliable with a proven ability to meet deadlines

  • Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently

     

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and monitor program and organizational budgets

  • Track and explain variances and submit to funders as needed

  • Generate invoices for multiple government funders with high attention to detail

  • Review journal entries and financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance

  • Support ongoing financial projects and audits

  • Collaborate with team members to improve processes and accuracy

  • Ensure timely submission of reports and financial data

  • Maintain clear and professional communication across departments

Qualifications and Must-Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred, but not required

  • 2+ years of accounting experience (nonprofit preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of journal entries and financial reporting preferred

  • Proficiency with accounting software and Excel preferred

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently with accountability

  • Must be reliable and consistent in meeting deadlines
