Role Overview :
The CDL Trainer is a critical role within INDOT’s talent attraction strategy, focused on developing the next generation of professional drivers through comprehensive training aligned with FMCSA regulations. This position blends instructional expertise with hands-on coaching to guide students through the process of earning their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), supporting INDOT’s commitment to safety, operational excellence, and workforce development. As the CDL Trainer you will have a minimum of 2 years holding a valid Class A CDL with a satisfactory driving record. This role is ideal for a dedicated CDL professional who is passionate about safety, instruction, and helping others build sustainable careers within INDOT’s transportation network.
This position will also serve as a Subject Matter Expert and provide direction to district management regarding CDL best practices and standards.
CDL Positions :
Candidates with a current CDL will earn an additional $1 per hour for this position. Candidates without a CDL will be given 90 days to obtain their CDL, with training provided by INDOT, and will then earn an additional $1 per hour upon successfully obtaining their CDL.

This position is located in INDOT’s Crawfordsville District, Safety Department.
Salary :
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $53,222.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either
Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
Must be familiar with single and tandem axle dump truck operations
It is preferred to have experience plowing snow and operating snow fighting equipment
The incumbent must become familiar with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) changes as well as other applicable laws regarding the training of CDL drivers.
Ability to investigate CDL driving issues and build a program to address them
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management and to gain support for new ideas and objective
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
